I was flipping through the July edition of Men’s Journal and came across a segment called “The Perfect Year”.  For those of you not familiar it is a calendar highlighting national (sometimes international) events that are needed to be experienced.  Events such as attending the Baltimore Grand Prix, go to the Olympic opening games street party in Colorado Springs and then trek up Pike’s Peak Highway, paddle 1,000 lb pumpkins at the Giant Pumpkin Regatta in Vermont and watch the fireworks from the Florida Keys on a houseboat.  This got me thinking that I want to experience this.  This will be added to my newly officially formed bucket list.  This may not be as large or diverse of a list as the one Morgan Freeman’s character made in the movie “Bucket List” but I also don’t have a Jack Nicholson as a friend.

Then I began to think about my next workout and fitness (as always) and thought what about a fitness bucket list!?!  A list made up of different fitness related events, workouts or places that I would like to train.  This type of bucket list would allow you to travel and stay fit and healthy at the same time!  A few items I have already accomplished (powerlifting meet, strongman competition, 5k’s and a 10k), some are slated to be accomplished (Spartan Run in July) and others are still looming in the distance (a marathon).  There are so many opportunities to enjoy life and your surroundings through fitness related events both locally and nationally.

If setting weight loss goals are too stressful then try making a “Fitness Bucket List” and completing all that you have on it.  By training for the different events you’ll in turn meet your goals of weight loss or whatever else it may be.

What’s on your bucket list?  What’s on your fitness bucket list?
