When exercising, you want to make sure you are not overexerting yourself. To measure the intensity of your workout, you should the Rate of Perceived Exertion Scale (RPE scale). This allows you to measure your exertion on a scale of 0-10: 0 being no activity and 10 being impossible to finish.

 

If you are still unsure if you are overexerting yourself,  a final check is to use the “talk test”. The exercise intensity is excessive if you cannot carry on a verbal conversation while exercising.
