We know you have good intentions when you say that you need to eat more fruits and veggies. Fruits and vegetables need to be convenient, quick and satisfy even the pickiest eaters. So, how can you add more fruits and veggies to your day? Here are six tips to incorporate fruits and vegetables to your meal planning.

  1. Find your favorites. Not all fruits and veggies have to come from the produce aisle.  They also can be found canned or frozen all year long.
  2. Sneaky food. Add (sneak) them into foods, rather than eating them separately. Throw in some carrots to meatloaf, broccoli into macaroni and cheese and squash into your sauce.
  3. Grab and go. Wash and cut your foods and store them in baggies in the fridge. If you are in a rush, it’s easier to grab the bag of carrot sticks or cut strawberries instead of reaching for something less healthy.
  4. Life of the party. When entertaining, serve fruit kabobs or cut up veggies to dip into your fondue. Serve cheese with apples, pears and grapes. Serve finger foods that include mushrooms and peppers.
  5. Drink up. Prepare fresh smoothies by adding fruits and veggies to the blender. Frozen bananas, strawberries and mangoes make for a thicker texture. Throw in some kale or spinach- you won’t taste it!
  6. Be seasonal. Keep a list of what’s in season. You can find great deals and recipes when foods are in season.
  7. Make a day of it. Scout out local farms and produce stands. Fruit picking is a fun activity for the whole family.
