Seafood as an aphrodisiac?  I think so.  I saw this recipe in the most recent edition of the IDEA Fitness Journal.  The author, Sandy Todd Webster, suggests this as an alternative dish that will keep your waistline a little slimmer this Valentine’s Day!
 

Shrimp Ceviche (Or Fancy Shrimp Cocktail)

 
Note:  If you prefer cooked shrimp then cook the shrimp after marinating them for 2 hours.
 This recipe yields 10  servings.  (183 calories, 20 g protein, 12 g carbohydrates and 8 grams of fat per serving)
 

Ingredients:

 

2 lb large shrimp, peeled, deveined and butterflied

3 cups lime juice (about 36 limes)

1 habanero chile or 2 jalepeno chile, stemmed and finely chopped

4 plum tomatoes, cored, seeded and chopped

1/2 red onion, halved and sliced very thin

1 cup packed cilantro leaves and tender stems, chopped plus extra sprigs for garnish

2 Haas avocados, peeled, pitted and chopped

2 tsp salt

 
1) Marinate the shrimp and vegetables.
 
2) Place shrimp, lime juice, chile, tomatoes, onion and cilantro in large bowl and toss well.
 
3) Cover with plastic wrap and allow to marinate in refrigerator at least 2 hours.
 
4) Garnish and serve.  Shortly before serving, add avocados and season with salt.
