Is this for real?

I’ve discussed the differences between the real thing and artificial sweeteners before.  The only real conclusion is that moderation of the real thing is the way to go.  The physical state of your body is not the only part of your life that sugary drinks may affect.

According to researchers teenagers that drank more than 5 cans of non-diet soft drinks in a week were significantly more violent then their peers.  The authors also cited studies that showed poor mental health and diminished social abilities.  Some of this may be caused by the body’s hormone response.  They also go on hypothesize the possibility of the more soda pop you consume you may be more likely to actually pop, in an aggressive type of way.

Now if you are drinking 5 non-diet soft drinks in a week then you are not doing a good job with moderating your sugary addiction.  I’m not so sure that if by drinking soda you will be begin terrorizing the neighborhood but it is another possibility of what sugary drinks can do besides add inches to your waistline and rot your arteries and veins.

I would be very interested in hearing everyone’s thoughts on this topic.  Extra points will be given to those that know what the “Twinkie Defense” really is.
