I’m Back…..

Last Wednesday night I came home from work to sit down at my computer, to do more work, only to find that my computer would not turn on.  After having the wonderful people at the Apple store diagnose the problem, it made the most sense to purchase a new computer.  I went with the MacBook Pro and I love it.  Now the downside to this whole story is that I wasn’t able to keep all of you up to date on all of the BODY BY BR3NT happenings and fitness headlines.  It is completely my fault in that I did not have any back up plan and had all of my information on a ‘locked’ laptop.  So, this is my public service announcement;  back up all of your computer’s information today, do not hesitate.

The moral of the whole story is simple:  “If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail.”

Prediabetes is the new Diabetes

Do you have diabetes?  Would you know it if you did?  Recent research suggests that 1 in 4  healthy people may be prediabetic.  Four percent of the people screened were found to be diabetics and they didn’t even know it.  Now the question is, would you know if you were diabetic?  The warning signs can be found from the International Diabetes Federation, which is the governing body for local diabetes associations.  The warning signs may or may not be present but may be:

    • Frequent urination
    • Excessive thirst
    • Increased hunger
    • Weight loss
    • Tiredness
    • Lack of interest and concentration
    • Vomiting and stomach pain (often mistaken as the flu)
    • A tingling sensation or numbness in the hands or feet
    • Blurred vision
    • Frequent infections
    • Slow-healing wounds

Type 1 diabetes often occurs quickly and dramatically where as Type 2 diabetes is more often gradual.  If you are still unsure of the differences between the two then you need a refresher.

As a reminder, Monday November 14th is World Diabetes Day.  Wear blue on this day to show your support for Diabetes Awareness.
