whday2016

Tuesday May 17th is World Hypertension Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness for hypertension or high blood pressure. The theme for 2016 is “Know Your Numbers” and they want you to make sure you get your blood pressure checked!  Let’s review what hypertension is and what you can do to take control of your health.

Hypertension is a modifiable risk factor of heart disease and a contributing factor to the leading cause of death of men and women in the United States.  Hypertension may also be positively impacted by physical activity.  That raises the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle even more.  Mental health is also important.  Increases in stress levels may also lead to higher blood pressure.

The World Hypertension League has plenty more information on community screenings and other blood pressure information.

So remember, next Tuesday the 17th know your numbers!  We can help.  If you don’t know how to get your blood pressure numbers let us know!
