How do you take time for yourself?

Hi everyone!  I’m Christine Stevens, a Certified Sleep Consultant and I help you get a great night’s sleep.  Besides the dark, cool nights that make it easy to fall asleep, I just love the fallen leaves and the crisp temperatures.  What do you love about fall and winter?

For me, I fulfilled a personal goal and ran a sprint triathlon for the first time in over 2 years!  I used to run triathlons all the time before my daughter, Sydney, was born, but training had fallen by the wayside for many different reasons.  This year I made a commitment to myself and my health to get back into shape and that’s just what I did.  I found a workout group that fit me and I’ve stuck with it…which wasn’t always easy but I’m glad I did.  As I slip out of the house at 4:45am on my way to the gym (I know…totally early), I’m comforted that both she and my husband are still sleeping soundly and won’t be up until AFTER I get back.  Sometimes I have to go to bed a little early but that’s how I balance getting enough sleep and staying in shape.

My message… take some time for yourself.  As Moms, we do a lot of things for everyone else but set our own priorities lower.  Think of one goal today, write it down and put it where you’ll see it daily.  Make gradual changes to ensure success.  Sleep is just one piece of your overall wellness and it’s not selfish to want to get the sleep you need.  It’s also not selfish to want to exercise or have a cup of coffee in peace and quiet in the mornings…so take time for something you enjoy.
