Self care includes any intentional actions you take to care for your physical, mental and emotional health. This includes things like sleeping, eating- even bathing. It also includes exercise.  For many, these are easily balanced throughout the day but for some, including new moms, it seems like a struggle to find the time. Becoming a mom can be a huge adjustment.  Once the baby arrives, you are spending most of your time taking care of your baby. How do you find a minute to yourself?

Exercise is one of the most overlooked types of self care. The CDC recommends 30 minutes per day of physical activity. Reducing stress, improving mood, decrease the risk of colds and enhancing the relationship with your little one are just a few of the benefits of exercise. With benefits like these, it is strongly encouraged to add some exercise into your self care routine.

When you feel ready, here are eight great ways to make exercise part of your self care routine:

Set small goals. First, choose a couple of days per week that you can try to fit in time to exercise. Once it becomes a habit, start adding additional days.

Break it up. Shoot for the recommended 30 minutes per day which can mean 10 minutes at a time, 3 times per day.

Be ready. Keep a pair of sneakers and comfortable clothes in your car. You never know when you will find time to grab a workout.

Alternate. Try different things throughout the week for variety.

Make it fun. If you are not looking forward to your workout, it will become a stressful situation and easily replaced by something different. Looking forward to your activity will increase the chances that you will do it.

Time for you. Consider the time you take to exercise as a little break from everything else. This is a time for re-energizing both physically and mentally. Did you know we offer 30 minute workouts? An efficient way to get your workout in in less time.

With child. If there are days that you just can’t set aside some time to exercise on your own, consider exercising with your baby. Take a walk with the stroller or check out some of these moves.

Playdate. Exercise with a friend ( and your kids). You can catch up with someone while getting your activity for the day.

Taking care of yourself is important in order to take care of others. Finding a little bit of time each day to create healthy habits will help you get the self care you deserve.  Let us help you create a workout tailored to the time you have available.
